At this point most of you’re familiar with the dangers of magnet ingestions in young children. If a child ingests at least two magnets they can attract each other through opposing loops of bowel and result in a perforation.

The Consumer Products Safety Commission is taking action to attempt to ban sales of buckyballs. Several major retailers like Amazon.com have already removed them from their site.

More recently actions been taken against a very similar product – Zen Magnets. http://gizmodo.com/5932638/us-government-wants-to-ban-zen-magnets – Interestingly enough, the makers of Zen Magnets have released a counter statement on their website. They cited trampolines, guns, bucket drownings and skateboarding as greater dangers.
