This rash is from enterovirus. It often looks dramatic like this in teenagers – and it can be painful. Notice the scabbed lesions that are present on the palms. It’s like hand, foot and mouth – but this is the adolescent presentation.

I really thought this would be poison ivy (rhus) contact dermatitis. It can look almost identical.
It absolutely could be rhus – but I happen to know that this patient also had fever and diarrhea 😉
